Keeping It Real

Meet our Impact Leader – Head of Secondary, Dwi Emas, Faith Yeoh!

If you walk past a lower secondary classroom and hear a teacher singing or students chanting “When I say Bio, you say… LOGY!”, that’s almost certainly me! There’s nothing quite like sharing my passion for a subject I absolutely love.

I’m a Biology teacher, a fun mom to a teen and a pre-teen, and I also happen to have a whole school full of non-biological kids aged 12 to 18! As Head of Secondary, I look after their safety, well-being and growth into respectful young adults, while championing our teachers so everyone feels supported.

My journey here started 13 years ago. I was an engineer until a conversation with Teacher Antonia, our Maths Lead, changed my path, and Anne Tham’s vision for education completely resonated with me.

Students sometimes see me as strict, and balancing animated, crazy classroom teaching with firm leadership isn’t always easy. At Dwi Emas, we use restorative reflection rather than purely punitive measures, and watching a struggling student turn their life around makes it all worth it.

I want Dwi Emas to feel like a second home where everyone feels safe, seen and supported. Colleagues know about my “Open Door with Faith” slots, set aside just to listen, and students know they can always pop in for a chat (with their teacher’s permission, of course!).

One of our biggest wins this year was the Phone Hotel: phones go into named compartments at 8:30 AM, and without the constant pull of notifications, our classrooms have transformed. It was a true team effort with Principal Ivan, Dr. Jacqueline, Teacher Nisha and Teacher Shu Yen.

A message from Faith:

“Dear parents, walking alongside your teenagers is an absolute privilege. As a parent navigating these same years at home, trust me, I’m learning right along with you every single day!”
